Kailah D. King-Collins, MPH, CHES®

My name is Kailah (pronounced like Kayla). My pronouns are she/her/hers and I am from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I am a traveling doula; I primarily serve Philadelphia and surrounding areas/counties but also serve Orlando, FL and Jacksonville, FL (I have family in the area!).

As a doula I am here to be a source of peace during your pregnancy, birth and postpartum periods. My priority is to provide the resources and information you need to confidently give life to your best possible birthing experience.

The duty of a doula is to be a continuous source of knowledge, encouragement, and support (both emotional and physical) for mothers/birthing people. As your doula I will advocate for you but will also work with you to create strategies for self-advocacy.

I am a graduate of East Stroudsburg University of PA with a BS in Public Health and West Chester University of PA with an MPH in Community Health. I am also a certified health education specialist with the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing. I am a BLS/Heartsaver® Instructor under the American Heart Association, a Women's Fitness Specialist with the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and a certified infant massage instructor under the World Institute for Nurturing Communication.

I unofficially started my work in public health during undergrad at East Stroudsburg. I was a peer educator on campus and for my senior project decided to focus on HIV/AIDS awareness. In grad school I continued to focus on HIV/AIDS and other health topics as they related to sexual/reproductive health and pregnancy. I officially began my work in public health as a biometric screener then transitioned into the work of HIV/AIDS as a tester and patient navigator. I currently work in the government sector of public health developing curriculum that focuses on health equity.

Sexual and reproductive health education peaked my interest long before my formal education. After learning about birth and postpartum outcomes for black and brown moms/birthers during my graduate studies I knew that at some point in my public health career I would do something to change the narrative; I answered the call to birth work in December 2019. I have supported families in hospital and home settings but have shifted to primarily supporting those who plan to birth at home or in birthing centers. As my business continues to grow, I am grateful that I also have the capacity to provide a variety of educational workshops for parents and birth workers. I hold several certifications, have completed trainings and am committed to continued education so that I can best serve and educate others. I am all about creating a sense of community; I have invested in a mentor and continuously work to find the best resources, information and supplemental services for those I work with. Some of the certifications and trainings I have completed include:

  • Trained doula

  • Certified Health Education Specialist

  • BLS/Heartsaver® Instructor (American Heart Association)

  • NASM-Women's Fitness Specialist

  • Certified Infant Massage Instructor

  • ServSafe Foodhandling

  • Blood Borne Pathogen training

  • Continuing education and conferences as it relates to Public Health, professional development, and birth work
